February 2018

While I'd love to talk about Pharmacology in this post, I think the elephant in the room for any prospective student who might be reading this post is... MARDI GRAS. Now, as a native New Orleanian, MG is not something that is particularly new to me. However, what was new was the opportunity to show a whole new group of people what all the hype was about. While we lost a lot of good men far too early in the weekend, some were able to pace themselves and understood the importance of rally. Twas a rainy MG this year, but nonetheless, I think all would consider it a huge success. If you are a first timer to the festivities, make sure you heed the warning of the importance of pacing yourself throughout the weekend.

As for academia and volunteering, both were about as calm as they have been this year. I (regrettably) did not take advantage of any of my down time and was unable to complete any volunteer hours this month. It'll make for a busy next couple months, but with 20 hours to go, I think I am capable. As for school, we had our 2nd Neuro exam for Med Pharm, as well as our first exam for Cell Control. This was our final Med Pharm block exam, and I can actually say that I will be miss the class (something that I haven't said for many a class in my academic career). Both exams were pretty fair and went off more or less without a hitch.

As for the future, we have the NBME Pharm exam coming up in about 9 days from now. I started studying about a week ago and have come to the unsettling realization that I have forgotten a good chunk of stuff from the start of the year... I have been able to recall and learn more quickly when studying the material this go around, but the sheer volume of the material is a bit daunting. So, my piece of advice for this would be to START STUDYING EARLIER. I would also recommend incorporating a sort of cumulative review of the material throughout the year, even though you aren't immediately getting tested on it. We shall see how it goes.
